Encaustic, meaning “to burn in or fuse”, is an ancient painting medium first practiced by Greek artists as far back as the 5th century B.C. The oldest known pigment binder, encaustic art combines molten beeswax with pigment and tree resin. It is slowly applied, in layers, heating each one at a time in order to create adhesion to the layer below. The ways to create are endless in terms of surface technique, adding bits of materials embedded into it. Works can appear textured or smooth, sheen or matte. Encaustic art is textured, rustic but refined. It glows in the daylight, with a luminous and sheer quality, showing layers below layers. You'll want to touch and smell this art, as its texture's quite unique and smells of honey beeswax.
For custom work, I specialize in creating handmade, one-of-a-kind, contemporary encaustic art pieces that are tailor-made to suit your space. With a collaborative approach, I work closely with clients to ensure their vision is fully realized in color and scope. Drop me a note if you have been thinking of art for your sacred space.

bio.
I discovered Encaustic painting after a long love of creating art with other mediums. My process is freestyle painting to give texture, imperfection, nuance, and marks, for a uniquely authentic look. I love a lot of texture, painting with a pallet knife and burying paper and other hidden materials and meaningful messages in the paint. I deeply enjoy the meditative process where I lose myself relaxing in to a free flowing state, connecting deeply with the divine nature within. I often begin my paintings with a blank slate, allowing myself to be moved organically. My background in Interior Design impacts my use of color, and the desire I have to create large scale works to adorn the walls of beautiful spaces.
I am completely in love with the process which is akin to sculpting with paint. To me, encaustic is far more visually interesting than other mediums and I am still enjoying growing in my process after15 years.
